The Haven Walker Music Scholarship is aimed at assisting dedicated student musicians for whom financial challenges may be a barrier to purchasing or renting an instrument or taking music lessons. Eligible Flagstaff area students in grades 8 through 11 are encouraged to apply by the.
The Scholarship's Music Advisory Board will judge each applicant on their musical talent and potential and their commitment to their musical journey. The Music Advisory Board anticipates announcing recipients and honoring them at a public ceremony in Spring.
How to Apply
Assemble all the needed materials before you begin.
For Part 1: To Be Completed by Applicant
Be prepared to provide a link to a video of you performing two songs. Ensure the link does not require a login. Aim for 2-4 minutes per song. Ensure that we can see you (including your face) playing your instrument. The focus for the video is not production quality (i.e. a cell phone recording is fine) but instead on seeing and hearing you. If you need assistance creating or providing a video, contact scholarship@flagstaffmusicfestival.com.
Be prepared to provide a personal statement (500-800 words) that tells us about your musical journey. Why do you love music? What inspires you? What are your musical aspirations?
For Part 2: My Recommendations
Identify two individuals who each agree to submit a recommendation by January 31, 2024, and share the
recommendation link with them.
For Part 3: Parent or Guardian Attestation
Talk to your parent or guardian about your plans to submit an application for the Haven Walker Music Scholarship, which is aimed at supporting Flagstaff students who are experiencing financial hardships. As part of the application, your parent or guardian will need to attest that paying for your musical instrument and/or lessons would create an additional financial hardship.
